Job Description

Cubed Talent is working with a market leader in the design, development, and manufacture of high-speed machinery, with an $8.5 bn turnover, a reputation for excellence and operations in 41 countries – to recruit for a Mechanical Design Engineer in Shipley.

In the role you will generate assembly and component detailed drawings from CAD models, co-ordinate with production engineering to optimise assembly/component Design for Manufacture (DFM) and co-ordinate with quality department to define incoming inspection requirements to verify component quality.

Main duties:

  • Generate design concepts for solutions to specific functional requirements.
  • Document design concept assumptions, design trade-offs, and calculations within the project design file.
  • Use Failure Mode Effect and Analysis (FMEA) techniques to identify technical risks.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for project gate reviews.
  • Contribute to planning design activities with the project manager.
  • Capture project technical risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support to the publications department in creation of product manuals, build books, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Adopt New Product Development (NPD) process and tools throughout projects.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the NPD process. 

About you:

  • Experienced user of CAD systems to generate models and drawings
  • Formal technical qualification to degree level, or equivalent, in a mechanical engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance principles and standards (ISO), material properties and standards, machining methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of configuration management (BoM), and Material Resource Planning (MRP) packages.
  • Technical knowledge of packaging machinery, sensor technologies/solutions, electrical drive systems, mechanical transmission systems and hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems.
