Cubed Talent are excited to be supporting our prestigious Client, in their search for a Commercial Manager, to join their expanding business, based in Huthwaite.

This role could also suit a Senior QS, seeking career progression.

Our Client is a leading supplier of engineering solutions, specialising in the bespoke design and construction of metal fabrications and the turnkey supply of physical water, energy, and environmental management installations. As a full electro-mechanical service provider, they can help to support almost any project.

With this wide range of expertise, they work within UK water utilities, power companies, government agencies, and drainage boards – with many appointing them as their preferred framework contractor. Additionally, they have worked with building companies, architects, machine builders, and other fabrications companies to achieve optimal solutions for a wide range of projects.

As Commercial Manager, you will report to Operations Director.

Job Purpose

To implement best commercial practices, maintain and maximise the profitability and financial performance of our projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management of Commercial resources allocated to the business streams
  • Develop a full understanding of the company’s commercial management system (Datafile) 
  • Work with Operations Director to discharge contract obligations
  • Resolve issues with contracts and commercial operations
  • Work with Operations Director to ensure contract scope change is identified and captured as well as anticipating and advising Operations Director where time related claims are evident
  • Ensure that the projects team are applying for variations to the client/ approve variations submitted by Sub-contractor 
  • Ensure that the commercial resources Issue payment certificates and Payless notices where appropriate 
  • Debt management and resolving commercial issues on debts
  • Agree Sub-contractor T&C’s and manage accounts 
  • Ensure that the commercial team are producing monthly commercial reports 
  • Identification and mitigation of project risk
  • Manage, support and develop admin team as appropriate
  • Lead on recruitment and onboarding activity to ensure demands of the business are met in a timely manner
  • Provide weekly and monthly data to meet KPI’s, monitoring and reporting on trends to inform the business
  • Any other duties assigned in line with the scope and seniority of the role

Skills & Experience


• Minimum 5 years’ experience of responsibility for the commercial performance of projects.

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience of managing a commercial team

• RICS Accreditation or the desire to work toward it.

• Able to demonstrate a noteworthy track record of administering successful contracts.

• Effective commercial / contract management skills are essential, with clear knowledge of best practice contract methodologies.

• Good commercial skills and ability to make sound decisions on matters of financial value.

• Understanding of contract performance measurement, risk management and change and claim management.

• Good negotiating, influencing and communication skills to command professional respect at all levels.

• Familiarity with most common Forms of Contract (NEC & FIDIC) within the construction industry and major projects and programme environment is also desirable.

• Understanding of the UK regulatory framework

• Highly competent in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

• Highly competent in the use of database systems to manage records accurately

• Ability to work confidentially and sensitively

• Ability to present information accurately

• Ability to introduce new ideas and drive improvements with scope of the role

• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form
